DO you want to become a campleader?
Are you interested in this challenge? Would you like to work on your personal development while discovering Czechia in a unique way? Take a step closer to an active and meaningful summer experience.
All workcamps for this year have already taken place. However, if you are interested in becoming a campleader, get in touch with us and you will be among the first to hear about the next season.
Why become a workcamp leader?
As a campleader, you have the opportunity to try out a leadership role in an international group and meet people from different countries and cultures. At the same time, you support a local organisation and gain insight into its work. Leading a workcamp also offers strong opportunities for personal development and hands-on experience.
For expats living in the country, workcamps offer a unique way to discover Czechia – its nature, people and culture.
What does it mean to lead a workcamp?
The role of a leader
Each workcamp usually has one or two leaders. This also applies to workcamps in Czechia, where more than 20 camps require around 40 campleaders.
Campleaders are part of the team, but they also carry more responsibility than regular volunteers.
Their role includes communication within the team, organising free time after working hours and motivating volunteers. A campleader helps ensure that the group feels comfortable and that the host organisation is satisfied with the results of the volunteers’ work.
💡 What is a workcamp?
Workcamp
Workcamp is one to a maximum of three-week long voluntary project where a group of volunteers from all over the world work and spend free time together. The group usually works for 6 hours, 5 days a week. The work does not require specific skills or previous experience and is unpaid. The thing that matters the most is your own motivation.
Focus of workcamps
Focus of workcamps is an important factor in choosing what kind of workcamp you would like to lead. Czech workcamps are divided into 4 categories that are listed below.
– Help the community
Volunteers help with organization of music festivals, events for kids or they help with renovation of sights, parks etc. Workcamps are held in big cities and small villages. By participating at this kind of workcamp you can meet a lot of other volunteers and locals and get to know new cultures.
– Help the landmarks
You will help with renovation of landmarks such as castles, chateaus, natural museums and so on. Volunteers will help with construction work, organization of events or maintenance of parks. These projects will help you learn about history of those sights and about heritage preservation.
– Help the people
You can work in socially excluded locality, nursing home or with children with disabilities. You can also help with renovation of community center or, for example, at bio-agriculture company.
– Help the nature
Volunteers participate at workcamps focused on helping at protected landscape areas. You can help with creation of nature trails or natural buildings made of sustainable material. Volunteers will learn something about local environment as well. Workcamps are mostly held in forests or other natural localities.
Leisure
After working hours, there is plenty of time to explore the surroundings, attend cultural events or plan group activities with other volunteers or locals. Volunteers are encouraged to share their own ideas on how to spend free time together.
Accommodation and food
Accommodation and food are provided by the host organisation. Volunteers often help with cooking or prepare meals together.
Accommodation is usually simple rather than luxurious. Volunteers may stay in schools, tents or gyms. In some cases, it is recommended to bring your own sleeping bag and mat; in others, accommodation with a host family is provided.
Who can be a campleader?
To become a campleader, you need to:
- be able to communicate in English (Czech is not required, as you will be paired with a Czech campleader)
- be at least 18 years old.
Previous workcamp experience is not required, but it is an advantage.
Campleaders cycle in 5 steps
New campleaders are prepared through a training cycle. A key part of the cycle is the campleader training led by experienced campleaders and INEX trainers.
By applying to the training cycle and paying the fee, you apply for the opportunity to lead a workcamp.
1. Leader training
Preparatory weekend training
What can you expect in the role of a leader? What does inclusive and partner-based leadership mean? How can you prevent conflicts and motivate a team? All of this is covered during the campleader training.
If the scheduled training date does not suit you, individual arrangements are possible.
12.-14. June 2026, Horní Sokolovec
📣Online training for campleaders
Can not manage to join us offline during the weekend training? No problem, we have you covered. We have created an online training for campleaders, where you are going to learn all the things you would during the offline training and much more. 📖Handbook with useful tips for workcamp leaders
In order to best prepare and support you on your campleader journey, together with our foreign partner organizations we have prepared a handbook for you, in which you will not only find interesting and useful information regarding the topics of gender, non-conflictual communication, but also, for example, tips on activities, evaluation, reflection and tips for solving more complex situations at the workcamp, including working with participants with trauma.
2. First aid training
Basic first aid knowledge is an important skill for every campleader. The training prepares you to respond to minor injuries as well as common emergency situations such as sunburns or allergic reactions.

4. Post-arrival Reflection – international weekend training
What have I learned, and how can I use it in the future? The evaluation meeting is a weekend gathering of campleaders focused on reflection, shared experience and inspiration.
The meeting takes place annually in September. Further details will be announced soon.
24.-26. September 2026, Hubenov, Borotice
