GLEN combines mutual learning in the Global North and Global South with inner-European exchange. Seminars of several days offer space for mutual and peer-to-peer learning and experience exchange. The European tandems foster this change of perspective by a three-month internship in the Global South. The GLEN cycle focuses on methods and contents of Global Learning which can be acquired and tested during the seminars and put into practice after the internship phase by organising an action or other initiatives linked to global issues.
Do you enjoy teaching? Are you keen to explore different methods for developing skills? For this project, we are looking for two participants who are enthusiastic about working with young people and have teaching experience. Moreover, you should be able to organise and run events and have very good English skills.
The Education Gathering Group (EGG) Academy was established in 2011 and is based in Hpa-an, the Karen state in eastern Myanmar. The aim of EGG Academy is to empower young people 16 and older so that they can actively participate in the development of their communities. To this end, the organisation offers high-quality education in subjects like English, social sciences, and IT. Its community-based education programme also enhances students’ knowledge of gender, health, and environmental issues. After a period of academic training at the EGG Academy, students apply their acquired knowledge by implementing their own development projects in local communities. By providing a space for mutual learning and sharing experiences among students from different areas, the EGG Academy also strives to foster cooperation and interreligious, inter-ethnic understanding among ‘young leaders’ in a post-conflict setting. The EGG Academy has cooperated with ASA since 2014 and currently has eight employees. At the local level, the organisation cooperates with a variety of partners, among them the Veranda Youth Community Café (YCC) and the Youth Learning Centre (YLC).
As GLEN participant, you would support the EGG Academy in its teaching activities. Your tasks would also include organising and running extra-curricular activities and workshops for students and engaging in intercultural exchange by sharing your own experiences and skills. GLEN participants are encouraged to make suggestions for programme development and are expected to participate in the EGG’s activities and events. In addition, you would be involved in fundraising activities and contribute to promoting the programme.
The scheduled time for the internship is from the beginning of July until the end of September 2018.
Training and seminars prior to the internship will be held in English.
The GLEN team will be comprised of one Czech participant and one Estonian participant.
