5. července 2020 - 19. července 2020 (15 dnů)
This ESC project will take place in a small Moravian village of Tvarozna Lhota, situated in the White Carpathian Mountains in cooperation with the local NGO “INEX-SDA Bile Karpaty”. This branch of INEX is active in sustainable rural development, environmental education and permaculture projects. In Tvarozna Lhota, they run a museum of “oskoruse” (a local unique fruit) and an open-air leisure and educational centre Cottage Travicna. Volunteers will be involved in its activities, contributing to the development of the region and maintaining its traditions. The location in Bile Karpaty is one of our locations suitable for people with fewer opportunities. Through the European Solidarity Corps we would like to provide international volunteer experience not only the people from all classes but also to the young people with special needs. The project helps to promote the active citizenship and also tolerance among the local people, and support the visibility of European values and mutual respect.
Tvarozna Lhota (bus stop in the village, next train stop Straznice). The nearby towns are Straznice (5 km distance) and Uherske Hradiste (30 km). The region is famous for its folk traditions and beautiful countryside. Meeting point: Tvarozna Lhota. The meeting time will be in the afternoon. Please note that it takes almost 5 hours to get there from Prague by public transport. The exact information will be provided in the infosheet. Leisure time: You can go on a trip to various sites of interest in the region, such the regional cities of Straznice or Skalice, visiting wine cellars, the Bata canal, or you can go hiking in the local countryside.
We are looking for volunteers who like nature and learning about environment and local traditions.
Volunteers will engage in tasks related to the environment, nature, intangible cultural heritage protection (education and presentation of traditional way of life, agriculture, pastoralism, coexistence with fauna and flora, etc.) and community development. They will work alongside the local and other international volunteers. As making organic herbal tea is an important way of promoting local traditions and products in Tvarozna Lhota, volunteers will be involved in this activity. They will learn to recognize different herbs, and then collect them and make various herbal mixtures. In order to see the whole production process, they will help in the social enterprise in a nearby village of Nova Lhota where the herbal teas are packaged. To have a real rural experience, volunteers will take part in other traditional activities, such as: herding sheep or taking care of horses. They will also help with maintenance of public areas in the village and in the area of the local reservoir of Lucina. The volunteers will also help in the museum of service trees and carry out minor repairs and gardening around the sheep farm. Study part: You will be able to get to know different kinds of local food and products and learn more about local products, organic farming, herding sheep, the history and natural potential of the region. You will have a chance to organize an international evening for the locals to present your national cuisine and culture.
Volunteers will sleep on mattresses in their own sleeping bags in a common room as well as outside on the sheepfold in tents. A common room, kitchen and bathroom are available. The accommodation is in walking distance from the workplace. You will prepare your own meals together as a group.
You will spend a lot of time outdoors so you can get into contact with different kinds of plants, herbs, pollen and insects. What to bring: a sleeping bag, a camping mat, warm working (outdoor) clothes, good mood and willingness to meet others.
