This workcamp is organized with Association for Jizera Mountains. They have been operating in the Jizera Mountains since 1999. They run an eco-centre in the middle of the forests - here we offer quality educational programs that draw children and adults into the adventure of exploring nature. We provide practical measures - planting original trees, restoration of tourist infrastructure, the establishment of natural gardens. We strive to preserve the natural values of the Jizera Mountains for future generations. We are currently setting up a new eco-centre on the opposite side of the Jizera Mountains in Hrabetice, which is part of the village of Janov nad Nisou. The aim of the workcamp is to help with the new eco-centre and create a better background for outdoor activities. In this workcamp, you are actively working for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Sustainable Cities and Communities (UN SDG11) and Life on Land (UN SDG15).

The eco-centre Skalka is located in Hrabetice, which is part of the village of Janov nad Nisou. The village is located on the edge of the Jizera Mountains. Leisure time: There are many possibilities for trips such as different hiking trips to the Jizera Mountains (Hrabetice is considered one of the entry points to the mountains), bike/scooter rental (there is a sports equipment rental nearby, where you can rent bikes or scooters for the whole day), board games. Meeting point: Hrabetice (in Janov nad Nisou). The meeting time is usually in the afternoon. Please note that it can take over 2,5 hours to get there from Prague. The exact information will be provided in the infosheet.

The work will be physical and mainly outdoors. It will include creating a trail for bare feet - cutting, grinding and laying of wooden curbs for the trail; preparing fillings from various materials, creating low rope obstacles - tensioning and tying ropes; mowing meadows, raking, removal of grass and trees. Since most of the work will be outdoors, we recommend volunteers to bring suitable clothes that can get dirty or damaged, sturdy shoes and a raincoat. Study part: There will be different workshops, international evenings, or a lecture on local history, depending on volunteers’ interest.

You will stay in the eco-centre. There are smaller rooms with showers and toilets in each room. Blankets and sheet are provided. The building has a kitchen, a common room and a dining room. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the local host. You will cook dinners together as a group.

You will spend a lot of time outdoors so you can get into contact with different kinds of plants, herbs, pollen, and insects. Please bring some old clothes that can get dirty or damaged and sturdy shoes.
