Mongolia
Boosting Tourism Business
Field of Studies: Tourism, Environmental Studies, Education, Teaching, Management, Marketing, Fundraising

The main topic of the internship is to develop a sustainable tourism approach for Murun and its surrounding areas. The aim is to enhance a form of tourism, which protects the local environment and ethnic groups that are still living in a traditional way. Interns should establish a business strategy for HATI. They will also take on the task of managing the TIC. In order to do this, knowledge of the local area and communication with the various stakeholders is required. Interns will also have to gather necessary information on how to meet the demands of tourists. Fundraising is another main task. In 2011, an English course was held to cover the expenses of the TIC, so English teaching will also be required in 2012.

Enhancing lives of sex worker and drug user communities

The local organisation Supporting Community Development Initiatives (SCDI) aims to enhance the life and working conditions of sex workers in Vietnam´s capital Hanoi. Their objective is to integrate this group into society through research and promoting community development models. SCDI provides support for the first self-help groups of sex workers in Hanoi, in an attempt to reduce the risk of HIV infection, drug use and violence. Interns will focus their work with the organisation on developing trainings for the communities based on their needs. The main objective is to empower individuals by providing useful knowledge and vocational skills that may lead to job opportunities. Also they should enhance their self-confidence in order to make them trainers for their own communities.

Fostering community development and adult education programs
Field of Studies: Education, Sociology, Rural Development, PR, Management

Interns will participate in implementing adult education programs and organize activities to promote the programs as an effective tool to gain employment. Another task of the interns will be motivating young people to become active in the education programs. They also can contribute to the organisation´s work by conducting research and thus highlighting community problems and proposing solutions during social events. Through the exchange of ideas and experiences, KCEC wants interns to foster community development projects and consequently to participate in facilitating such endeavours.

Zambia
Teach and live in a Zambian boarding school
Field of Studies: Education, Natural Sciences, Teaching, Mathematics
Language: English
The aim of the internship is to support the existing teachers by lightening their workload. Interns will teach Natural Sciences and/or Mathematics (or other subjects dependant on their field of study) for 20 lessons a week, as well as offer afternoon activities for students. Interns are encouraged to come up with ideas for these leisure activities. Examples are drama classes, soccer, volleyball, chess, choir or agricultural activities. As interns will be working for the school, they are required to take part in the weekly assemblies like the local teachers. Another task of the interns is to take supervisional duties for two weeks per term.

Kenya
Training youth in various forms of media
Field of Studies: Film & Photography, TV & Film Production, Digital Design, Public relations

GLEN-interns will participate in the regular activities of the Shootback program. This means documenting MYSA activities using film and photography. The Shootback program also includes media classes in which the interns will be teaching. The Young Shootbacks, as the students are called, are aged between 12 and 17 and have already gained some photography and video skills.Depending on their experiences and field of studies, interns can offer different classes that build on the existing skills of the students. Training in script writing, book production, animation, documentary making or the use of new media (internet platforms, blogs etc.) is highly welcome. The GLEN-participants will also show the students opportunities about publicising their works, either at photography exhibitions or through film festivals. Additionally interns will be involved in the daily functioning of Shootback, with particular attention on PR.

Ethiopia
Developing alternative energy systems to preserve wild coffee forests
Field of Studies: Environmental Engineering, Renewable Energies Systems, Environmental Sciences, Energy Management or related fields

Interns will analyse renewable energy potentials (solar, biomass, wind, water) for generating electricity/cooking energy. UNESCO’s MAB program and the established biosphere reserves serve as model regions. The specific needs of user groups including cultural backgrounds will be addressed. Interns will research alternatives in other parts of Ethiopia and Africa and consult with local experts, community members and other stakeholders in Kafa for implementation planning. Interns will ultimately develop a conceptual plan for implementation of the selected system. A written documentation in English should be provided to NABU at the end of the internship. Before leaving for Ethiopia interns will be made familiar with the Kafa Reserve and the overall procedures in Ethiopia at NABU.

Burkina Faso
Animation d'un centre socio-éducatif et promotion de l'économie solidaire

Différentes activités sont proposées aux participants GLEN-Géco 2012. Premièrement, ils auront un rôle d'animateurs et formateurs. Leur tâche sera d'animer le centre de lecture et de dispenser des cours d'anglais. Ils seront également chargés d'apprendre des jeux de société aux jeunes enfants et d'entretenir la cadre de Kafuli. Enfin, ils animeront des conférences sur des thèmes émergents et participeront à des séances de sensibilisation de la population locale sur la gestion de l'environnement. Il est donc important qu'ils maîtrisent bien l'anglais et connaissent les jeux de société courants.
Un autre domaine d'activité sera le tourisme solidaire et le commerce équitable. Les stagiaires établiront des connections avec les associations locales pour promouvoir le tourisme solidaire et évalueront la qualité des ateliers de Kafuli sur ce thème. Des changements éventuels pourront être proposés. En ce qui concerne le commerce équitable, les stagiaires supporteront le développement de nouveaux produits et contacteront les acheteurs potentiels. Enfin, ils chercheront des sources de financement.
